Lobster Council Seeking A Penny A Pound

The Lobster Council of Canada is going to lobster harvesters and buyers seeking a penny for their thoughts. But what the council is really hoping to gain is a penny from each pound of landed lobster.

The council has rolled out a one-cent investment plan for the lobster industry in the Atlantic provinces and Quebec.

The intention is to collect, at the first point of sale, a one-cent levy for each pound of lobster landed.

“That one cent is shared . . . it is meant to be half from the harvesting sector and half from the selling sector,” explains Geoff Irvine, executive director of the Lobster Council of Canada.
