BROOMFIELD, Colo. — WhiteWave Foods, maker of Silk®, Horizon®, International Delight®, LAND O LAKES®* branded liquid dairy products and Fruit2day®, today announced it will be hosting its fourth annual Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 28 at the company’s headquarters in Broomfield, Colo. The event provides an opportunity for children of the company’s employees to learn about business and sustainability through a series of specially designed workshops and events.
The theme for this year’s event is “Invent the Future,” which will focus on educational and career opportunities. In total, approximately 150 kids and teens ranging from ages 8 to 18 will have the opportunity to learn more about business, sustainability and explore different career choices through a series of interactive games and workshops. Some of these workshops include:
- The Power of Poop – In conjunction with the Denver Zoo, during this session kids will learn about gasification, the conversion of waste into gas, and the use of gasification in the zoo’s Asian
- Tropics exhibit. Specifically, they will be ushered into the Denver Zoo’s GasPro gasification trailer to see a demonstration and learn about the ways the zoo uses waste to create energy.
- Mad Scientists – At this session, students will get to conduct experiments with WhiteWave’s quality assurance team. Experiments will include changing the properties of liquids and other changes of state.
- It’s Batty in Here – During this session, kids will learn about how business teams work together to create and launch a new product. Fruit2Day Morning will be used as an example of a successful new product launch.
- It’s a Brand, Brand World – Students will learn about how brands market and advertisethemselves during this session. A focus will be placed on how advertising and marketing tap into all five senses and emotions.
Each participant will also eat lunch at the company cafeteria, the Wave Café, which features organic, natural and locally-grown foods. Following lunch, high school students will participate in a college panel designed to help them brainstorm about higher education and career opportunities.
“Hosting Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is one way we are able to give back to our employees and show our appreciation for all of their hard work and dedication,” said Blaine McPeak, president of WhiteWave Foods. “Holding this event to help educate young people about business, career opportunities and the important role we believe sustainability can play is just one way we live our mission to be the Earth’s favorite food company.”
