Quebec-Raised Lamb A Real Treat For Easter Holidays

MONTREAL – “Fresh Quebec lamb, raised by small-scale producers, is the best in the world,” proclaims Dimitri Galanis, owner of Mythos Restaurant on Park Ave.

Lamb from the Charlevoix region has even earned its own government-regulated “indication geographique protégée.” In 2009, it became the first North American food to be legally protected based on its region of origin, as Champagne, Parma ham and Roquefort cheese are.

Even without the pedigree, family farms around the province are also producing exceptional meat with delicate flavour and tender texture, says Ilir Sinani, a butcher at Mourelatos Supermarket in St. Laurent, which orders its Easter lamb from a small producer near Trois Rivières.
