Bakery Tied To Salmonella Outbreak Ordered Closed

A Rhode Island bakery tied to a salmonella outbreak that killed two people has been ordered to remain closed.

DeFusco's Bakery voluntarily closed its doors last month as dozens of people tested positive for salmonella after they ate pastries called zeppoles that were made there.

Annemarie Beardsworth, a spokeswoman for the state Department of Health, says on Monday that an order signed last week ensures DeFusco's won't open its Johnston bakery or store in Cranston until the problems are fixed. Inspectors found several violations, including pastry cream stored in unsafe conditions.
