Purity Organic Produce Expects 100% Growth Of 2011 Argentine Pear Program

San Francisco, CA – Purity Organic Produce’s (formerly Pacific Organic Produce) Argentine organic pear program is expected to deliver more than double the volume over last year’s level. Increased demand for the organic category and the Purity Organic brand, continued investment in superior shipping technology, and optimal growing conditions in 2010 have all resulted in unprecedented yearover- year growth for the Purity Organic pear program from this region.

“We’re really happy to have started the 2011 season on such a high note. With a significant increase in volume, it’s created an optimal environment for Purity to meet the growing demand for high quality, organic fruits. We’re very pleased with the
results so far,” says Ricardo Sardans, President of Purity Organic Produce.

The first shipment arrived at Purity’s strategic logistical partners in Los Angeles, CA and Lucca, New Jersey on February 20th, 2011. This year’s program include 10 varieties of organic pears, of which 7 of 10 varieties considered to
be “large volumes” by Sardans. The program started with Green and Red Bartletts, andcontinued with D’Anjou’s and Abate Fetels; all of which are currently in stores. By mid-April, five new varieties of Purity Organic pears will arrive
including Packham, Winter Bartletts and smaller volumes of Conference, Starkrimson and Forelle. Sardans expects this season to continue to deliver record breaking volumes of organic pears by the end of the program in June 2011.

Purity Organic is also furthering their commitment to quality and freshness by significantly extending their use of Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) bags with this year’s organic pear program. This is an important investment for Purity Organic and their growers as it helps ensure freshness upon delivery regardless of the origin of the commodity or time of year. The pears arrive in 3 different pack styles; 10kg, 12.5 kg (Euroboxes), and 18kg. Of those, 80 – 90% of the pears are arriving in MAP bags. “We are always looking for innovative, strategic ways to stay ahead of the curve in delivering fresh, delicious, organic produce that will surprise and delight our customers.

Freshness is a hallmark trait of Purity Organic and the expansion of the use of MAP bags for our pears during this time of year just makes sense,” says Greg Holzman, founder and CEO of Purity Organic Produce.

Grown in the provinces of Rio Negro and Neuquén in the central region of Argentina, Purity Organic works
with dozens of organic farmers, many of which are multi-generational, family-owned and run. Committed to organic and sustainable agriculture, one of the growers has recently built a new packing facility that is exclusively dedicated to organic fruit. This investment has allowed his family to now become one of the largest producers of organic fruit in the Rio
Negro region, an area of Argentina that is known for its agricultural production.

Purity Organic pears are available now in Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Vons andother grocery stores across the US and Canada until late June 2011.
