Regis Milk Co. To Close Doors After 53 Years

The conveyor belts at Regis Milk Co. roll off 35,000 plastic containers of milk, tea and fruit punch each weekday for Food Lion supermarket shelves across the Southeast.

But the longtime Meeting Street milk processor's taps are about to be turned off.

After 26 years of buying beverages from the family-owned Regis Milk Co., Food Lion, Regis' only customer, has found a new supplier.

The Salisbury, N.C., subsidiary of Belgium-based Delhaize Group recently contracted with Dallas-based Dean Foods Inc. as the single-source supplier for its private-label brand beverage products.
