SANTA ROSA — G&G Specialty Foods, maker of cheese spreads, hummus and salsa for retail sale, is part of a $270.5 million cash merger deal by a large cheese company in Canada for G&G’s parent company.

The merger agreement between Saputo Cheese USA Inc., a wholly owned part of Montreal-based Saputo Inc., and Richfield, Wis.-based Fairmount Cheese Holdings Inc., owner of the DCI Cheese Co. portfolio of brands. The acquisition is expected to close this month.

Fairmount acquired DCI in 2005 with backing from GTCR Golder Rauner LLC. A year later, Fairmount/DCI acquired Santa Rosa-based G&G, which was founded in 1991.
