BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A Flowers Bakeries subsidiary in Bluefield is shutting down and its production and sales will be shifted to other subsidiaries in the region.
Flowers Baking Co. of West Virginia announced the shutdown Tuesday in a news release. The bakery will cease operations on Saturday.
The Bluefield bakery produces breads and buns and employs 164 workers.
Bakery President Robbie Watkins says the Bluefield facility can't produce the volume needed to be efficient because it's old and its equipment is outdated.
