Butcher Bert McGuire feels that talking to people is an important part of his job.
Being able to see the folks who cut the meat offered for sale and ask questions about it are reasons customers come to a place like D-J's Meat Market & Deli in House Springs, he said.
"I think people have become more conscious of what they eat," said McGuire, 61, of Dittmer. "They'll ask where the meat comes from, if the animals were on any supplements."
He said he is happy to speak to customers about whatever they want to know. Often, the conversations stray into other topics.
