King Kullen Introduces Nutritional Scoring System

King Kullen Grocery Co., Inc., the oldest supermarket in the country, announced Wednesday plans to launch an innovative new nutritional scoring system in all 45 of its Long Island and Staten Island locations. The scoring system aims to help customers make healthier choices when shopping for groceries.

“The nutritional scoring system will revolutionize how people think about food,” Brian Cullen, co-president of Bethpage-based King Kullen, said during a news conference held at the grocery store chain’s Commack location.

King Kullen will be the first supermarket chain in New York to partner with Massachusetts-based NuVal Nutritional Scoring System.

All store items will receive a NuVal score from 1 to 100; the higher the score, the higher the nutritional value. Scores will be listed in trademark blue hexagons tagged on product labels and signs throughout the stores.
