HOUMA — The front of Nicholas Mavridis' seafood store in the Astoria section of Queens, N.Y., stands out because of the mural below its display window.
It shows two cartoon dolphins kissing amid the bright blue of a presumably clean ocean.
But Mavridis' customers are not that easily swayed, he said.
“It's been a long time,” said Mavridis, a seafood purveyor for a quarter-century, when asked about sales of seafood from the Gulf of Mexico. “They always, always ask now where the fish is from.”
