YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Schwebel Baking Company today announced the winners of the "We Want Schwebel's!" Video Contest. From October 15 – December 31, 2010, consumers were encouraged to create a video using the famous "We Want Schwebel's" jingle.
To enter, fans were instructed to visit www.wewantschwebels.com, and by using a digital or video camera, or cell phone camera, create their video performance of the "We Want Schwebel's!" jingle. After receiving entries from across the United States, Top 10 finalists were determined by a panel of judges, based on Originality & Creativity; Technical Quality; and Adherence to Rules. Contest winners were determined by means of online public voting. Winners will receive a total of $10,000 in Cash Prizes with the Grand Prize Winner receiving the $5,000 Cash Prize. Voters were entered into the contest to win "Free Bread for One Year."
For more than a century, customers have been asking for Schwebel's Bread by name. From the humble beginnings in the kitchen of Joseph and Dora Schwebel in 1906, the company has grown into the market share leader throughout Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and Western New York. In 1983, as a young songwriter and pianist, Cleveland, Ohio native, Jim Brickman was hired by Schwebel's and composed the "We Want Schwebel's" jingle. More recently, Brickman is best known as a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and has been named the most charted male Adult Contemporary artist to date, with six of his albums receiving Gold and Platinum status.
"We are truly awed by the number of creative and engaging videos Schwebel's fans submitted. It's been very exciting to see their loyalty and love for Schwebel's," said Lee Schwebel, director of corporate communications. "They are all winners in our estimation!"
