Danville, VA – Danville's Institute for Advanced Learning and Research is using science to create jobs. They've established the Dan River Plant Propagation Center. They will bring 30 to 50 direct jobs to the area over the next few years.
They'll be working with area farmers to help grow some of these plants. Officials with the Institute say, this is the first time that their research has led to jobs and a plant production facility.
Chris Horne, with the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, says researchers there will be cloning plants in mass quantities.
"We're looking to perfect these particular types of species, make them heartier making them more productive," said Horne. "We're going to develop them, sell the technology to growers then the growers will put them it into the retail chain."
