Giant Quebec dairy processor Agropur said yesterday it has bought Main Street Ingredients, a food additives producer based in La Crosse, Wisc., for an undisclosed price.
Agropur, Canada's largest dairy co-operative and owned by 3,500 dairy farmers, has 26 plants in Canada, the United States and Argentina, 5,600 employees and annual sales of almost $3.5 billion.
It is best-known in Quebec for its Sealtest, Natrel, Quebon and Yoplait brands,
It has been expanding outside Canada for several years to maintain growth. The domestic market is saturated and dominated by itself, Saputo and Parmalat -together they hold an 80-percent share
