Born and raised in Hama, Syria, Tarif Hamad moved with his family to Dubai in the late 1990s and worked for the oil and gas department of General Electric. The company offered to move him to its Calgary office and, considering Canada’s positive reputation, he accepted and arrived in Calgary with his wife and two children in 2012; since then they have been blessed with a daughter born here.
Hamad says he quickly got acquainted with this beautiful city and set about trying to make a difference in the lives of people here, and making his family members in Dubai proud of him.
Syrians have been eating cheese for the past 8,000 years. “It’s in our DNA,” says the man who starts his day with cheese and continues to eat some type throughout the day. “It’s an essential food.”
