PORTLAND, OR — Ashley Evans of Klamath Falls correctly matched all nine biceps and athletes in the 2010 Name Those Beaver Biceps contest to win $500 worth of dairy products from the Dairy Farmers of Oregon.
"I had no idea I had done so well in the contest," said Evans. "There will definitely be a good supply of 1% milk, yogurt and cheese in my future shopping cart. You can't go wrong with dairy products, they are good and good for you."
The Name Those Beaver Biceps contest challenged enthusiastic fans to match photos of biceps to head shots of former OSU players. The Dairy Farmers of Oregon held the contest as part of a broader initiative to educate fans about the benefits of chocolate milk as a sports recovery drink for serious athletes.
Oregon State University's Sports Performance Center embraces flavored milk as part of a comprehensive approach to post-exercise recovery from strenuous workouts by adults. Chocolate and strawberry milk is available in the state-of-the-art weight room facility for OSU football athletes. According to Head Strength & Conditioning Coach Bryan Miller, the inclusion of flavored milk has been noticeably successful.
Miller said the decision to include flavored milk was based on its "four-to-one ratio of carbohydrate to protein, teamed with a minimal amount of saturated fat. Researchers say that's the target ratio for a recovery drink to be effective."
