Pelion, SC.; December 10, 2010 – WP Rawl is wrapping up the year, pleased to have provided over 3 MILLION servings of LazyTown SportsCandy™ fresh fruits and vegetables to school children throughout the Southeast.
In 2009, WP Rawl partnered with LazyTown Entertainment to pack single serve fruits and vegetables with the LazyTown™ brand. That brand partnership, along with the USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable program, has helped WP Rawl provide a variety of fruit and vegetable snacks to over 500 schools in 8 states.
Ashley Rawl, Director of Sales & Marketing for WP Rawl, commented, “As a father first, I understand the importance of getting kids to eat more fruits and vegetables, at home and in school. The efforts of lawmakers to create more programs that put fruits and vegetables in the hands of kids is a good first step to changing the eating habits of America. Our job as growers is to make the products taste good and appeal to children. For us, that’s where LazyTown™ fits in.”
LazyTown™ is the global entertainment brand dedicated to kid’s health. In the LazyTown TV show, SportsCandy™ is what the healthy role models call fresh fruits and vegetables. For example, Sportacus, the show’s main super hero, eats SportsCandy to gain energy. The result is that kids feel empowered to choose SportsCandy™ for themselves because LazyTown™ presents fruits and veggies in a fun, non-preachy way to kids. The LazyTown™ TV show airs in over 100 countries, and LazyTown™ has been partners with Nickelodeon in the US since 2004.
“The opportunity to partner with LazyTown Entertainment has been amazing. The LazyTown SportsCandy™ brand is about more than fun, it’s on-message, encouraging kids to eat right and get active,” concluded Rawl.
The LazyTown SportsCandy™ product line includes baby carrots, grape tomatoes, broccoli florets, celery sticks, sugar snap peas, sliced apples, red grapes and orange wedges. Available for retail or foodservice, the single serve packages are available in bulk or in display ready merchandising trays and point of sale is available upon request.
