Vermont Creamery has started a project that will expand its Central Vermont cheese and butter plant by nearly 40% by October 2020.
The Websterville company now has more than 100 employees and a 100,000-square-foot manufacturing facility where it makes about 4.8 million pounds of cheese each year, about half of that goat cheese.
It broke ground May 9 on the first phase of a three-phase expansion project that includes a renovation of its existing fresh cheese facility, company officials said. The first phase is due to be completed in December, and all three phases are due to be completed by Oct. 1, 2020.
