Washington, D.C. – The American Bakers Association (ABA) is honored to announce that former Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives John Boehner will serve as the American Bakers Political Action Committee (PAC) Dinner keynote speaker during the 2019 ABA Convention.
“We are delighted to offer PAC supporters exclusive access to a high-profile leader of American politics during this important industry event,” said American Bakers PAC Chairman Steve Avera, Flowers Foods. “Speaker Boehner holds a unique perspective and we look forward to hearing his take on the current political climate, and how we can come together to promote policies that can grow the baking industry.”
“Speaker Boehner’s deep knowledge of how to effectively lead change will inspire those who attend this year’s PAC events,” said ABA President and CEO Robb MacKie. “Mr. Boehner led several significant initiatives during his time in office, all with the goal of creating a more balanced Federal budget and seeking better solutions for the challenges facing American families. We can learn how he managed to align a Party in transition – and how we can apply those tactics today.”
Speaker Boehner got involved in state and local government after seeing firsthand how high taxes and red tape impact entrepreneurs. A former small businessman, John Boehner served as Speaker of the United States House of Representatives for nearly five years (January 2011-October 2015), during which he led the drive for a smaller, less costly, and more accountable federal government. Boehner represented the Eighth Congressional District of Ohio in the U.S. House from 1991 to 2015. He now serves as Senior Strategic Advisor for Squire Patton Boggs LLP, one of the world’s foremost law and public policy firms.
“Speaker Boehner’s reputation as a reformer will impress those who attend this dinner,” said ABA Vice President Political & State Affairs Kelly Knowles. “For decades, Speaker Boehner focused on removing government barriers to private-sector job creation and economic growth, addressing the drivers of America’s debt, eliminating pork-barrel “earmarks” and reforming Congress, and rebuilding the bonds of trust between the American people and their representatives in Washington.”
