The SE Regional Fruit and Vegetable Conference will be holding both a live and silent auction during their annual show. The show is scheduled for January 6 -9, 2011 at the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center in Savannah, GA. The conference, sponsored by the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and the South Carolina Peach Council, will also feature a silent auction, a trade show, informative workshops, classes and demonstrations.
The live auction is held on Friday night during a reception on the trade show floor. Led by auctioneer Joe Jones, items to be auctioned include several pieces of signed sports memorabilia and numerous pieces of jewelry including several diamonds.
The silent auction, held during trade show hours, has become on of the most popular activities at the conference. Items valued at more than $40,000 are donated by industry suppliers and are available to attendees on a bid basis. Items donated generally include seed, chemicals, fertilizer, jewelry, paintings and gift baskets. Funds generated from the silent auction go to support educational scholarships and other association activities.
The conference, currently in its 13th year, will also offer some of the most informative educational sessions available for fruit and vegetable production. During the three-day program, over 85 hours of commodity specific production training, pest management information and marketing updates are offered to attendees. The National Raspberry & Blackberry meeting will also be held during the conference. Other special events planned for the conference include a Business Operations Track to be held on both Thursday and Saturday. A special awards ceremony is planned for Saturday morning and on Sunday an Industry Roundtable is planned for both growers and suppliers to discuss issues of mutual concern.
The 2010 Trade Show, held in conjunction with the education sessions, offers an exciting assembly of vendors and suppliers to the fruit and vegetable industry. With over 200 companies committed to the conference, the 2010 Trade Show will provide attendees the opportunity to compare products, talk with industry representatives, observe demonstrations, network with other growers and learn about the latest in fresh produce technology.
