Five Plead Guilty To Hiring Illegal Immigrants To Work At San Diego Bakery

The former owner and four employees of a San Diego wholesale bakery pleaded guilty Tuesday to knowingly hiring illegal immigrants to work in the bakery, well-known for its cakes, bread and muffins.

Under a plea bargain, Jesse William Fadick, the former owner of S&S Bakery, will forfeit $800,000 in profits.

Prosecutors agreed to recommend no prison sentence but five years' probation for Fadick, 64, and Jean-Pierre Martinez, 54, the general manager of the bakery. Minimal sentences will be recommended for supervisors Rigoberto Sarmiento-Machuca, 35, and Rogelio Machuca-Sarmiento, 46, and employee Abel Baizabal, 38, according to the U.S. attorney's office in San Diego.

Sentencing is up to District Judge Michael M. Anello. A sentencing hearing is set in San Diego federal court for Monday.
