Georgia May Extend Shrimping Season

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) — Georgia officials are considering an extension of the shrimping season in state waters past December 31, when it's scheduled to end.

It's probably a safe bet Georgia shrimpers will get a few weeks added to their season. The Department of Natural Resources has routinely granted more time for the past 31 years.

The state's Shrimp Advisory Panel will meet the week of December 13 to discuss an extension. Patrick Geer, the DNR's chief of marine fisheries, says he doesn't see any reason why one would be denied.

Historically, Georgia's shrimping season has been extended through mid to late January.
