Louisiana’s oyster fishermen could be among the American businesses to benefit from new food-safety rules being debated in Congress.
Although the bill has not been finalized, one provision of it has promise for the people and businesses that depend on the Gulf shellfish.
Against the backdrop of oyster-crop devastation in the wake of the Gulf oil spill, any good news is welcome. And this would definitely be good news.
The bill includes regulations on how the Food and Drug Administration can go about regulating the oyster industry, which the agency has threatened in recent years.
