Robin Michel is stepping down as president of the Giant Landover division at the end of this month, according to the grocery chain's parent company, Ahold USA.
Michel could not be reached for comment Friday, but the company said she is leaving to pursue other opportunities. Don Sussman, executive vice president of supply chain at Ahold USA, will manage the operations of the division until a replacement it found.
Michel, who joined Giant in 2008 from Roundy's Supermarket in Milwaukee, rose in the ranks from executive vice president and general manager to head of the division. Her appointment was part of a management realignment at Ahold, which also placed Carl Schlicker at the head of Ahold USA Retail.
In a statement, Schlicker credited Michel with "revitalizing the Giant Landover business through several ambitious initiatives including the implementation of the Value Improvement Program and Project Refresh to renovate 100 aging stores across the chain."
