$22 Million Expansion Of Michigan JBS Meat-Packing Plant Ahead Of Schedule

GUN PLAIN TOWNSHIP — Mild weather this fall has allowed work crews to get ahead of schedule on the construction of a large addition to the JBS slaughterhouse and meatpacking facility in Gun Plain Township.

The foundation has been laid and the walls are nearly to be set on about a $22 million, 81,000-square-foot facility in an area adjacent to the current plant to add freezer capacity, said township Supervisor Mike VanDenBerg.

The company, one of the largest meat processing firms in the world, is hoping to complete construction at the site, off 11th Street just south of the city of Plainwell, sometime next spring.

“But it all depends on the weather,” VanDenBerg said of the construction completion.
