The combination of the International Floriculture Trade Fair and the FloraHolland Trade Fair events in the Aalsmeer area last week attracted record numbers of visitors, resulting in a big success. The results also bode well for their combined ticket as the International Hortiweek, as of next year.
Reports from the IFTF are still coming in, but total attendance appears to have been around 10.000 people, with a very sizable international contingent. Organisor Dick van Raamsdonk pointed out he was not completely happy with that total, but that most ‘shopkeepers’ were nonetheless very content, prompting him to say: “Whilst most exhibitors were happy with the quantity and quality of the visitors, I would have settled for a third (5.000) more. I guess I put my expectations higher than many exhibitors. I don’t know if this is good or bad, but what I do know is that everybody left the fair with a great sense of satisfaction”.
The FloraHolland Trade Fair, taking place at the vast FloraHolland auction house, included about 700 stands exhibiting their trade goods. 4400 visitors were said to have attended on the second day of the event, which was 900 more than the year before. There was a similar increase in the amount of exhibitors, suggesting a significant growth on the whole. Cut flowers also took up a considerably larger part of the fair floor this time around, signaling good news for us florists perhaps.
