October 1, 2010 – Anaheim, CA – PEAKfresh®USA announced today a national program to introduce PEAKfresh® Produce Bags to the consumer market. The clear plastic 12 x 16 inch re-sealable bags keep fruits and vegetables fresh for longer periods of time, which in turn results in less spoilage and lower food costs for the consumer. Used in accordance with the simple instructions, the bags will extend produce life up to 10 days longer than other bags. The newly launched sales program targets both mainstream and specialty grocery stores and will be managed by Scott Queathem & Associates. The new, economical consumer bags are attractively packaged ten to a box and sold currently through boutique “kitchen” stores; specialty grocery retailers such as Sprouts; and online at www.PEAKfreshUSA.com.
“In this economy the homemaker can’t afford to throw away produce because of spoiling”, states company president, Greg Ganzerla. “We have developed a home use bag which is the same product that the major growers and shippers use to preserve and ship more than $300,000,000 worth of produce around the world. The consumer can use this bag with the same results for any produce they put into their refrigerator or crisper. Better yet, the PEAKfresh® bags are less expensive than competitive products made in the USA.”
PEAKfresh®USA has manufactured and internationally supplied Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) films and related products for the fresh fruit, vegetable and flower industries since 1992. Like the industrial products, the new consumer bags remove ethylene gas which is released by fruits and vegetables after picking. Tests prove that exposure to ethylene gas, which occurs in normal plastic bags, accelerates aging. When used with refrigeration at correct temperature levels, PEAKfresh® bags will extend the life of fruits and vegetables and maintain their freshness. This not only saves the consumer money, but the freshness improves satisfaction with their grocery store purchase.
The consumer PEAKfresh® bags have several other benefits. Not only do they help maintain vitamin C levels in the produce, but the anti-fog additive in the film reduces the formation of water drops or condensation, minimizing the potential development of damaging bacteria or mold. PEAKfresh® bags can be reused, needing only to be rinsed with water and dried before each use.
First introduced in Australia, PEAKfresh® products are certified by the Biological Farmers of Australia (BFA 5001) for the packaging of organic produce.
