Tyson Adds 165 Jobs At Wilkesboro, NC ‘Fresh’ Plant

Tyson Foods Inc. is making major improvements to the "fresh plant" at the company's chicken processing complex in Wilkesboro.

"Our Wilkesboro (fresh) plant is involved in a couple of improvement projects designed to improve the efficiency of our fresh poultry operations, which are involved in the production of tray-packaged fresh chicken for retail customers," said Bob Johnson, manager of the complex, in a prepared statement released Tuesday.

"The total cost of these projects is more than $20 million," said Johnson. The first project involves the process of deboning chicken and the second one is replacement of cut-up equipment in late November.

He said the two projects combined resulted in the addition of 165 production jobs at the complex in Wilkesboro, with hiring under way since June and continuing for attrition.
