Seafood Groups To Exhibit At Americas Food & Beverage Show

MIAMI — The Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) in conjunction with The Atlantic Food & Beverage Processors Association have pulled together an impressive group of 16 Atlantic Canadian food exporters to participate in the Americas Food and Beverage Show. The Canadian exhibitors will showcase new-to-market products alongside local favorites and traditional standbys.

Atlantic Canada is comprised of the four most eastern Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador and Prince Edward Island. The ACOA is a federal government department dedicated to the economic development of the Atlantic Canada region.

“Since 2003, the World Trade Center Miami has worked with the ACOA. In that time, participating Canadian companies have met with potential buyers from South Florida, the Caribbean and Latin America resulting in several million in net sales over the past seven years,” said Charlotte Gallogly president of the World Trade Center Miami.

For the first time at the 2010 show, ACOA along with the Mussel Industry Council, an association of producers, processors and industry groups representing the mussel industry in Canada, and The Lobster Council of Canada, a collective of Canadian fisheries and leading seafood exporters will co-sponsor the VI Annual Americas Chef Competition as well as sponsor the Canadian Lobster and Mussels Showcase taking place October 26 from 5:00-6:30p.m.

Additionally, Adam Burns, Director of Fisheries Renewal Policy with the Fisheries and Oceans Canada will present an overview of Canada's approach to wild capture fisheries and aquaculture management in a seminar entitled “Supporting the Harvesting of Sustainable Fisheries.”

“After China, Canada is the largest seafood supplier to the U.S.,” said Don Newman,

Executive Director of the Atlantic Food and Beverage Processors Association. “Seafood is a significant source of protein for nearly three billion people and is one of the planet’s most highly traded food commodities. Of particular interest to our exporter markets, is our leading development of sustainable fisheries.”

Participating companies include Bonté Foods specializing in pizza products; Cavendish Farms specializing in potato and frozen potato products; Les Fermes GAM Michaud Farms specializing in multiple varieties of potatoes; McCain Foods, a global leader in the frozen food industry; Tropical Shipping, a shipping company; Berg Water, a luxury-brand water; Quidi Vidi Brewery, brewing world-class beer launching its seventh brand, made with iceberg water; Sea Star Seafoods specializing in salt fish production; and W.P. Griffin Inc., which farms potatoes, grain and hay. Additionally, The Cider House Company Limited, Prince Edward Aqua Farms Inc., Lizotte Machine Vision and Degenhardt’s European Sausage Farm Ltd. will also be exhibiting.
