Price For Milk Rises In Wisconsin, Nation

Wisconsin's average milk price for September is expected to be $17.20 per hundredweight, up about 90 cents from August and $3.70 cents more than September 2009. Nationwide, the price is also expected to come in at an average of $17.20 per hundredweight, up 50 cents from August.

Prices have been higher than expected through late summer, due in part to international exports of American dairy products.

"Compared to July a year ago, exports of butterfat were 1,054 percent higher, cheese 66 percent higher, dry whey 47 percent higher and nonfat dry milk/skim milk powder 9 percent higher," University of Wisconsin-Extension service dairy market expert Bob Cropp wrote in his September dairy outlook.
