Americans’ appetite for sandwiches has grown during the Great Recession, and two major sandwich chains plan to feed that appetite in Atlanta.
Atlanta Bread Co. will likely double its presence here, while Panera Bread Co. believes it can do about the same.
And there may even be another. The Krystal Co. is hiring staff for a new concept, the K Cafe, which will have its only location in Windward Square at 5215 Windward Parkway in Alpharetta. Krystal is testing the concept, a fast-casual, sit-down restaurant that insiders say will feature sandwiches.
“The expectation is that it will be more of a sit-down environment,” said Brad Wahl, vice president of marketing for the company.
The menu is still in development but the food will be “a little bit higher end for Krystal,” he said.
