According to the US Mushroom Council, organics accounted for 11% of total mushroom sales in the US last year with over $164 million dollars sold. Over the last four weeks, organic mushrooms have out- performed the entire organic produce category with a +12% increase in volume sales.

2024 California Pear Season Begins with Promising Crop and High Market Demand

California pears continue to set the standard as the first pears to be harvested in the United States. This year California pear growers are expected to begin harvest in the River growing district July 15 with Bartlett and Red Bartlett being the first varieties to harvest this year. 

USDA and Cornell University Break Ground on National Grape Improvement Center in Geneva, New York

The over 70,000 square foot facility will be named the National Grape Improvement Center and will house the ARS Grape Genetics Research Unit and ARS Plant Genetic Resources Unit. In addition, four Cornell grapevine research projects will move into the research facility.

Systems Approach Approved for Chilean Grapes

The Systems Approach replaces methyl bromide fumigation with a series of mitigation measures at the origin, improving the quality and condition of the fruit in the destination market and allowing it to become more competitive in the face of growing competition from other southern hemisphere countries that ship grapes to the U.S. market.     

South Korea Grants Market Access to Texas Grapefruit

Texas grapefruit growers just gained access to a new international market in South Korea worth $5 million annually. USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) negotiated the technical details that will help ensure grapefruit exported from Texas are free from pests, such as the Mexican fruit fly.
