Shrimp Season to Close West of Gulfport Ship Channel; Additional Waters South of Intracoastal Waterway Remain Open

Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources (MDMR) announced that beginning Wednesday, May 1, 2024, all waters south of the Intracoastal Waterway and west of the Gulfport Ship Channel in Mississippi territorial waters are closed to shrimping.

Trace Register and ReposiTrak Announce Alliance to Help Retailers, Wholesalers and Seafood Suppliers with FSMA 204 Food Traceability

Since 2005, seafood suppliers have been sharing traceability data through Trace Register for regulatory, food safety and sustainability purposes. During that same time, ReposiTrak has built a network of 30,000 companies (including more than 1,000 seafood suppliers) sharing regulatory, financial and compliance documentation, as well as traceability data to meet the requirements of the FDA’s FSMA 204 food traceability law.

ReposiTrak Adds 20 New Meat, Poultry and Meat Alternative Suppliers to Rapidly Expanding Food Traceability Network for FSMA 204 and Beyond

Among the new members are producers of cured and smoked meats, fresh and frozen poultry, fully cooked options, on-the-go meat snacks and plant-based meat alternatives. They include a nationally recognized leader in poultry and several suppliers of premium sausage who have been in operation for more than a century. Each supplier will use RTN to efficiently share traceability data with their retail and wholesale customers who now require FSMA 204-level traceability for more food categories than are included on the FDA’s Food Traceability List.

Northeast Beef Producers Gathered In Canandaiguia For Workshop

The workshop provided regional beef producers with insights surrounding consumer trends, the importance of the Northeast Beef Directory as a resource for consumers to locate beef producers selling direct to consumers, and more. Attendees had the opportunity to engage staff from the Cattlemen’s Beef Board during the Beef Checkoff Academy training, which taught producers about the basics of the Beef Checkoff, the Beef Checkoff funding process, and current Beef Checkoff funded projects.

Teachers to Get Inside Look at Horticulture Industry

Thirty high school science teachers from across the U.S. are embarking on an immersive summer field trip to horticultural destinations around Indianapolis, gaining valuable hands-on experience and insights into careers within the industry. The field trip is part of Seed to STEM, an all-expense-paid professional development program provided by Seed Your Future, an organization committed to raising awareness of career opportunities in the horticulture industry.
