Texas-based Hardie’s Fresh Foods employees took to the streets of Houston this week to support fellow Texans who had to evacuate as a result of Hurricane Harvey. They were among the first to respond by providing 3 truckloads of food to the American Red Cross for evacuees at the George R. Brown Convention Center, local hospitals, hotels, and to first-responders – many of whom were personally impacted by flooding.

One week ago, on August 23rd, with little fanfare or publicity, the USDA notified the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) of the first documented case of acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND), or EMS, in the United States. The USDA’s notice reported an outbreak of AHPND amongst pacific white shrimp (vannamei) at a “semi-closed” shrimp farm in Cameron County, Texas in June 2017, confirmed through laboratory tests in July.

Washington State Halts Salmon Farm Permits After Fish Escape

Washington Gov. Jay Inslee has directed the Department of Ecology to put on hold any new permits for net pens after thousands of Atlantic salmon escaped into Puget Sound earlier this month from a damaged salmon farm.
