First Squid Fishery Begins Marine Stewardship Council Assessment

The Town Dock of Point Judith, Rhode Island, and Lund’s Fisheries, Inc. of Cape May, New Jersey requested the sustainability assessment. It is being conducted by SCS Global Services, the first independent sustainability certifier to be MSC-accredited. A positive pre-assessment of the fishery was completed in January. The Town Dock and Lund’s Fisheries have also agreed to have the Illex (Illex illecebrosus) squid fishery assessed under the MSC standards as soon as possible.

US' First Offshore Shellfish Ranch Opens On The L.A. County Coastline

Catalina Sea Ranch is the first offshore shellfish ranch in U.S. federal waters and is a 100-acre aquaculture farm, currently equipped to grow Mediterranean mussels. The ranch’s first harvest is scheduled for mid-July and is only available wholesale, which means you’ll have to find them on menus at restaurants in the Los Angeles and Long Beach areas.

Federal Judge Orders NY Smoked Fish Company To Stop Sales

A New York smoked fish company has been ordered by a federal court to stop selling its products, which were produced in a facility that was contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes (L. mono), until it can comply with food safety regulations.
