Lorenzo Servitje, the Mexican bakery magnate who helped build his Grupo Bimbo into an international snack and baked-goods empire that acquired brands including Entenmann’s, Thomas’, Freihofer’s and Stroehmann, died Feb. 3 in Mexico City. He was 98.

CSM Bakery Solutions To Close Sugar Land Facility

CSM Bakery Solutions will close its Sugar Land food manufacturing facility closer to March 31 than the originally announced October 2016 date. The Texas Workforce Commission reported Monday that CSM Bakery Solutions will lay off 147 people, and spokesman Dennis Murphy confirmed that the Atlanta-based company was able to adjust its manufacturing footprint to keep the local facility open longer than previously expected.

Dollar General Corp. intends to create approximately 10,000 new jobs in 2017 as the result of 1,000 planned new store openings and two new state-of-the-art distribution centers. The creation of these approximate 10,000 new jobs will be a roughly nine percent overall increase to its workforce and mark the largest one-year employee increase through organic store and distribution center growth in the company's 78-year history.
