This week, food enthusiasts across the country will visit the Magic City to take part in the 2017 Food Network & Cooking Channel South Beach Wine & Food Festival (SOBEWFF), where the National Pork Board (NPB) returns as the Official Pork Sponsor and Preferred Protein of the Festival. This year, the NPB has invited five-time James Beard Award nominee Chef Jose Mendin to create for the first time the only pork burger at Friday's Burger Bash. Chef Mendin's Pork Mojo Burger features ground pork and pork shoulder with citrus aioli and pickled onions.

Maple Leaf Foods To Acquire Lightlife Foods

Maple Leaf Foods announced that it has signed a definitive agreement with Brynwood Partners VI L.P. to acquire Lightlife Foods, Inc., a leading manufacturer and brand of refrigerated plant-based protein foods in the United States, for US$140 million, and related costs. The transaction will be financed from cash on hand. Based on current operating results, the acquisition is expected to be accretive to Maple Leaf's earnings in 2017. The deal will close in March, subject to customary U.S. regulatory review.

National Garden Bureau Members Host California Summer Vegetable Trials

This event is hosted by five breeders in seven locations from August 14-19, 2017. Modeled after the long-standing CA Spring Trials that are held annually in California during the month of April, attendees will have the opportunity to visit breeder company trial sites throughout the state in the month of August.
