PMA Praises US Dietary Guidelines For Recommendations To Increase Fruit And Vegetable Consumption

Kathy Means, vice president of industry relations of the Produce Marketing Association (PMA), issued the following statement regarding the U.S. Departments of Agriculture and Health and Human Services Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2015-2020 release:

The National Mango Board (NMB) is encouraging mango industry leaders to participate in the upcoming nominations process to become a board member. Board members have the chance to shape the future direction of the NMB programs in upcoming years. The NMB is currently seeking nominations for six board member positions to serve a three-year term beginning January 2017. The positions currently open are two importers in District III, one importer in District IV, and three foreign producers. Candidates must meet certain requirements to be eligible and be willing to serve the mango industry by fulfilling board member roles and responsibilities.

United Fresh Produce Association Issues Statement On The Release Of New Dietary Guidelines

“The 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans strongly recommends that all Americans significantly increase their consumption of vegetables and fruit to improve their health. For the first time, and to reinforce the significance of eating more vegetables and fruits, this recommendation tops the list of ways to improve eating habits and health."

Louisiana Commercial King Mackerel Season Closes January 7th

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced the commercial season for king mackerel in Louisiana waters will close at 12 p.m. (noon) on Thursday, January 7, 2016. The commercial king mackerel season in Louisiana waters has previously been closed on March 27, 2009 (08-09 season), September 12, 2009 (09-10 season), February 11, 2011 (10-11 season), September 16, 2011 (11-12 season), August 22, 2012 (12-13 season), September 20, 2013 (13-14 season), and October 31, 2014 (14-15 season).
