DMF Closes Vineyard Waters To Shellfishing, Except For Bay Scallops

The Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) has closed all shellfishing in Martha’s Vineyard waters, except for the harvesting of bay scallops, according to Oak Bluffs shellfish constable David Grunden. The closure is due to an expanding phytoplankton bloom that shut down shellfishing in Buzzards Bay last Thursday.

Court Battle Continues Over Beef Checkoff

A court battle is continuing between NCBA, the Organization for Competitive Markets and HSUS. Both HSUS and OCM want information on an audit of the beef checkoff released from the Office of Inspector General. NCBA wants to intervene in the case. OCM President Mike Weaver says he expects NCBA will be granted that request, but all his group is concerned about is the proper information gets out as to how check off funds are being spent.

El Segundo, Calif., and Springdale, Ark. – Tyson Foods, Inc. has taken a 5-percent ownership stake in plant-based protein producer Beyond Meat, both companies announced today. The investment, provided through a fundraising initiative by Beyond Meat, will provide additional capital to help the company expand its product portfolio and distribution.
