Today, Oceana released a poll revealing that 83 percent of Americans support new requirements focused on eliminating seafood fraud in the United States, including requiring that key information such as what type of fish it is, and how and where it was caught or farmed, follows our seafood from boat to plate.

Commercial Harvest For Greater Amberjack In South Atlantic Federal Waters Closes Oct. 4

The commercial harvest for greater amberjack in South Atlantic waters will close, at 12:01 a.m. (local time) October 4, 2016, and will reopen at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on March 1, 2017. The 2016-2017 commercial quota for greater amberjack is 769,388 pounds gutted weight. Commercial landings are approaching the commercial catch limit and should close to prevent the catch limit from being exceeded.

Commissioner Putnam And Visit Florida Promote Florida Seafood Festivals

In recognition of National Seafood Month in October, Florida Commissioner of Agriculture Adam H. Putnam announced today that the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services partnered with VISIT FLORIDA to promote the seafood festivals throughout the state that highlight Florida’s fresh, local seafood. The comprehensive list of Florida’s annual seafood festivals, housed on the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ website, can now also be found on VISIT FLORIDA’s website in time for peak festival season, which spans from September through May.

Americans Embrace Sausage As A Staple Throughout The Day

Whether in links, patties or loose, for breakfast, lunch or dinner, sausage is an American favorite and new polling shows just how popular it is as October’s National Sausage Month approaches. Nearly nine in ten Americans (89 percent) say they enjoy sausage, including 93 percent of men and 85 percent of women. Choosing a favorite type, however, is far more divisive. Italian sausage (20 percent) and breakfast patties (20 percent) are the two most popular styles of sausage followed by breakfast links (15 percent) and bratwurst (12 percent).
