USDA APHIS is seeking comments on a proposed rule to amend the import requirements on fresh lemon fruit from Chile into the continental United States. The proposed rule will be available for review and the comment period will be extended for 30 days ending September 26, 2016.

An oyster-dwelling species of bacteria is moving northward because of warming ocean temperatures, and oyster producers and regulators in Nova Scotia are already preparing themselves for the migration.

CDPH: Consumers Should Avoid Central Coast Rock Crabs, Bivalve Shellfish

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today warned consumers not to eat rock crabs caught in Half Moon Bay and bivalve shellfish and rock crabs caught in Monterey Bay, due to the detection of dangerous levels of domoic acid, a naturally occurring toxin.

2016: 23 Vibrio Cases Across Florida, 5 Deaths

According to the Florida Department of Health, two Bay area residents did get infected with Vibrio Vulnificus and died this year. One resident was from Citrus County, the other resided in Sarasota County. So far this year, 23 people have been infected by the bacteria across the states. A total of five people have died from the infections. However, contracting it is rare.
