Little Blue Mussels Are Big Business In Newfoundland And Labrador

Dr. Harry Murray is the mussel man for the Department of Fisheries and Oceans in Newfoundland and Labrador. Right now, there are seven companies with 35 to 40 mussel farms in the province, according to Newfoundland and Labrador's Aquaculture Industry Association. All of those cultivated mussels are grown near land, inshore. Murray is studying the possibility of growing mussels offshore, in deep water.
