The demand for innovative and exotic flavored food is more prominent among millennials. In addition, they are looking for options to customize their food based on their calorie intake per day.”

Why Sourcing Local Food Is So Hard For Restaurants

As globalization has created longer and increasingly complex food supply chains, there has been a concomitant surge in demand for locally-sourced food. Some companies have ridden this wave. Chipotle, for example, differentiated itself from other restaurants by building a brand around a promise of fresh and local ingredients. But after the chain was linked to outbreaks of E. coli, norovirus, and salmonella last year, its emphasis on local sourcing was called into question.

United Fresh Donates More Than 51,000 Lbs Of Produce

The United Fresh Produce Association donated 51,042 lbs. of produce and 641lbs. of assorted dry food to the Greater Chicago Food Depository at the conclusion of the United Fresh 2016 annual convention and expo in Chicago this week. Volunteers collect donations from the convention floor to benefit those in need serviced by Greater Chicago Food Depository partner agencies such as food pantries, soup kitchens, and other emergency feeding centers.

Richard Smith Honored With E.E. Harden Award

The 78th annual Grower-Shipper Association Golf Tournament & Gala Events were highlighted by the presentation of the Association's E.E. "Gene" Harden Award for Lifetime Achievement in Central Coast Agriculture to Richard Smith (Rich), posthumously. This award was presented to Rich’s family at GSA’s dinner dance gala on June 25, recognizing him for his outstanding and substantial contributions to agriculture and to his community during his life.
