Krasnyi Oktyabr Inc. in Brooklyn, NY, is recalling Vobla (Roach) Dry Eviscerated Salted Fish and Bream Dry Eviscerated Salted Fish because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium which can cause life threatening illness or death. Consumers are warned not to use the products even if they do not look or smell spoiled.

Calls For Stricter Standards Growing For Grass-Fed Beef

As consumers increasingly spend more money on meat they consider healthier and more sustainable, there's no one agreed-upon definition for grass-fed beef. Many in the organic and natural meat industry are calling for a tougher measure after a voluntary federal standard was dropped earlier this year.

Missouri Producers Vote Against Beef Checkoff

Director of Agriculture Richard Fordyce announced that the state will not establish a new beef checkoff. This announcement comes after the director approved a petition to conduct a referendum of Missouri cattle producers, at the request of the Missouri Beef Industry Council and pursuant to section 275.352 RSMo as amended, to establish a $1.00 per head state beef checkoff assessment on Dec. 23, 2015.
