Gryphon Investors Announces Majority Investment In The Original Cakerie

Gryphon Investors (“Gryphon”), a San Francisco-based private equity firm, and The Original Cakerie (the “company”) today announced that Gryphon is making a majority investment in the company, a leading manufacturer of high-quality frozen desserts for retail and foodservice customers across North America.  Terms of the recapitalization were not disclosed.  The deal is expected to close in early December.

AeroFarms Raises $20 Million

AeroFarms Inc. has raised $20 million in a Series B round of venture funding to build more of its “aeroponic vertical farms.” The high-tech indoor farms use 95% less water than conventional, commercial field farms, according to founder and Chief Executive David Rosenberg.

The Californians and their company, the Wonderful Co., have made a lot of money turning unassuming agricultural commodities into well-known brands, most famously the pomegranate and the mandarin. They think their magic can work on the grapefruit, a hybrid born in Barbados in the 17th Century and often derided since.
