Harmful Bacteria Can Survive In Cookies For Months, UGA Study Finds

Researchers at the University of Georgia found that pathogens, like salmonella, can survive for at least six months in cookies and crackers. The recent study was prompted by an increased number of outbreaks of foodborne diseases linked to low-water-activity, or dry, foods.

Devanco Foods Facility Proposed For West Dundee, IL

A proposal to put a meat processing facility in West Dundee's Oakview Corporate Park has raised some concerns. Devanco Foods would like to construct a new 74,200-square-foot office/warehouse/processing building on a 7.45 acre vacant lot in the southeast section of the business park. The proposed site plan also includes the potential for a future expansion that would add another 48,500-square-feet to the east of the building, according to village documents.

Sysco Names Tom Bene President And COO Effective Jan. 1

Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) announced today that veteran foodservice distribution executive Tom Bené has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of Sysco, effective Jan. 1, 2016.  In his new role, Bené will continue to report to chief executive officer Bill DeLaney. Bené will oversee all of Sysco’s business operations and commercial functions, and will now expand his management responsibilities to include Sysco’s supply chain organization led by executive vice president Scott Charlton. 

Milford Valley Names 2015 ‘Art Of Chicken’ Contest Winners

Milford Valley has selected the winning entries in the 2015 “Art of Chicken” Photo Contest. The contest, which ran from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30, 2015, challenged entrants from across the country to use chicken product packaging in unique creations that captured the Milford Valley brand. Photographs of the creations were then submitted to the company’s Facebook page for judging.
