Celtic Blue Reserve from Glengarry Fine Cheese in Ontario, Canada, was named “Best of Show” among 1,779 entries at the American Cheese Society’s (ACS) 2015 Judging & Competition. The results were announced in a ceremony on Friday, July 31, at the 32nd Annual ACS Conference in Providence, R.I. In a tie for 2nd place overall is LaClare Farms Specialties, LLC’s Standard Market Cave Aged Chandoka from Wisconsin and Emmi Roth USA’s Roth’s Private Reserve from Wisconsin. Cellars at Jasper Hill from Vermont was awarded 3rd place overall for their Harbison.

USDA Announces Changes To Dairy Import Licensing Program

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced on Monday that it will be changing the Dairy Tariff-Rate Import Quota Licensing Program, effective September 1. Among the program changes outlined in the final rule, USDA will suspend the historical license reduction provision, currently set to expire in the beginning of 2016, for an additional seven years. This change will allow license holders to adjust to changing market conditions affecting the dairy sector.

Trans Pacific Partnership Talks Fail In Face Of NZ, Canada Dairy Clash

Pacific Rim trade ministers have failed to clinch a deal to free up trade between a dozen nations after a dispute flared between Japan and North America over autos, New Zealand dug in over dairy trade and no agreement was reached on monopoly periods for next-generation drugs. The president of the Canadian Dairy Farmers, Wally Smith, blamed New Zealand for the delay in the agreement saying it was not accepting what was on the table.
