France: Intermarché Finds Success With 'Inglorious Fruits & Vegetables' Campaign

The “Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables” campaign was created for Intermarché, a supermarket chain in France, to see if customers would be willing to buy imperfect produce at a reduced price. The advertising campaign includes posters and television ads, including the one below in which an “Ugly Carrot” gets a pep talk. The goal was to reduce the more than 603,835,616 pounds of food wasted in the European Union each day. It has been a year since this campaign was implemented, and the misshapen apples, potatoes and lemons were so popular with customers that “inglorious” produce is now being offered in all 1,800 Intermarché stores.

Norwegian Seafood Council Announces Winners Of The Inaugural Global Sushi Challenge

The Norwegian Seafood Council along with the World Sushi Skills Institute is thrilled to present the winners of the Global Sushi Challenge US preliminary. Takatoshi Toshi, chef of Sushi Ran in Sausalito, CA, took home first place and the title of US Country Challenger. In addition to a $1,000 cash prize and a state-of-the-art sushi knife from Korin, Chef Toshi also won a trip to Tokyo, where he will compete at the Grand Final on Wednesday, November 25.

New Jersey's Top Seafood Chef Announced At 2015 Jersey Seafood Challenge

New Jersey Assistant Secretary of Agriculture Alfred Murray today declared Chef Bryan Gregg of Escape Montclair in Montclair the winner of the 2015 Jersey Seafood Challenge for his signature dish, Barnegat Light Scallops, Creamless Creamed Corn and Jersey Chanterelles.  Chef Gregg will be New Jersey’s official representative at the Great American Seafood Cook-off in New Orleans on August 8.  Today’s competition was held at Viking Village in Barnegat Light.
