Mediation Proposed For Salmon Sustainability Certification Squabble

The Marine Stewardship Council will facilitate mediation for the salmon processors who disagree about who can participate in the client group that has the council’s sustainability certification. Back in April, ten of Alaska’s major salmon buyers asked to rejoin the label they dropped in 2012, saying it will help them tap back into picky European markets.

Chinese Researchers Are Genetically Engineering Beef With More Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Chinese researchers say they’ve reared beef rich in the beneficial fatty acids associated with fish oils, according to Biotechnology Letters. The researchers, based in the Shaanxi province, said that while much more study is needed, they managed to breed some cows with more than five times the normal levels of omega-3 fatty acids.

Dawn Meats Wins US Beef Export License

The Dawn Meats processing facility at Charleville in Co Cork has become the third Irish plant to regain access to the lucrative US market following the lifting of the ban on Irish beef imports earlier this year.
