Sainsbury's Launches Marine Stewardship Council Certified Cod On Their Cafe Menu

Sainsbury’s is the first major supermarket to launch Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certified cod on their café menu. As the leading retailer for sustainable seafood, this adds to the 150 Sainsbury’s products that carry the MSC logo and have been sourced from sustainable fisheries.

B.C. Celebrates North America's First ASC Certified Salmon Farm

British Columbia is now home to North America’s first salmon farm certified by the Aquaculture Stewardship Council.  Marine Harvest Canada has announced that its Marsh Bay farm has joined fewer than 30 salmon farms worldwide in achieving the certification first developed by the World Wildlife Fund. The company expects its first ASC certified salmon to be available to consumers in February.

Plan Calls For Beef Checkoff Fee To Double

Cattle producers may get a chance to vote on whether they want to double the increasingly controversial $1 beef checkoff charge. Under a new plan unveiled this week, an industry working group proposed raising the fee to $2 that each producer pays upon sale of an animal, but also set a referendum every five years.
